The Jubilee Weekend

However hard you try, there is no escaping the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this weekend, so why not embrace the holiday and get involved in all things British.

If you are not having your own street party this weekend, then there are still plenty of other parties and events to take part in. Why not escape the possibility of rain and head over to  Selfridges on Oxford Street to see their Big British pop-up shop. The shop features classic British labels like Hunter and Barbour to slightly newer ones like Mulberry. There will also be an array of British food to feast upon from Marmite sandwiches to cups of tea. If you have a moment today head to Selfridge’s rooftop which has been transformed into a tea room for The Big British Tea Party; a perfect break from shopping for afternoon tea.

If the Queen’s river pageant isn’t your cup of tea on Sunday 3rd then infuse yourself with some fine art at the ‘British Design 1948-2012: Innovation in the Modern Age’ exhibition at the V&A. There is a bit of irony that this anti-establishment exhibition is held at such a prestigious museum but to see some of the most significant moments in the history of British design, it is definitely worth checking out.

We will all be having our own little Jubilee celebrations this weekend, but whatever you do, enjoy!

Here are a few key Madeleine Thompson pieces that you should have with you over the weekend; from the blue and white maxi dress to the perfect cashmere cover up.

All available to buy from Austique

(Rainy) Day Out: British Design at the V&A Museum

Not wanting the dreary weather to dampen our spirits this weekend, we headed over to South Kensington’s V&A Museum to have a look around their recently opened British Design exhibition.

In celebration of all that is brilliant about British design and creativity, the exhibition showcases some of the best architecture, fashion, music and art from 1948 to the present day. From Alexander McQueen’s infamous ‘Horn of Plenty’ collection to original Laura Ashley dresses and Britpop Blur videos, the whole exhibition is a visual feast.

We thoroughly recommend a visit to the V&A, especially if the weather insists on keeping us all housebound! Layer-up and keep warm under your waterproofs with a super-cosy Maddy Beanie, available to buy now at Net-A-Porter.

What will you be doing whilst the weather is more monsoon than May?
